Local org. responds to recent RFK Jr. comments on autism

DELMARVA. – The Lower Shore Autism Community responded to U.S. Health Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy’s comments on autism.

Kennedy, in his first press conference as the secretary, stated he wants to find a cure for autism by September. He said people with autism, “Never pay taxes” and “Never hold a job.”

Clay Belgie with the Lower Shore Autism Community said RFK Jr’s commitment to finding a cure is promising, but his comments about the autism community can be harmful.

“Oftentimes, people will talk about a cure and use the word ‘disorder’, but in many circumstances, autistic people are people– they are just like you and I. They have some special talents,” said Belgie.

Belgie added the organization offers support to anyone in need. For more information, visit LowerShoreAutismCommunity.org.
