Good Morning Delmarva discusses esophageal awareness month
WMDT – This month is Esophageal Awareness Month, and the Esophageal Cancer Action Network (ECAN) is spreading awareness about the disease.
Esophageal Cancer is the fastest increasing cancer for men in the U.S. and it’s a silent killer.
ECAN’s president, Mindy Mintz Mordecai, who founded the organization after her husband passed from what she says it’s a preventable cancer with screening.
Reflux Disease can lead to this cancer, and she tells us it’s important to eliminate this precursor before the cancer begins — as the survival rate is very low.
This cancer has increased by over 700 percent in the country and Mordecai says there’s an alarming rise in diagnoses amongst the younger generations.
