GMD highlights local author’s debut novel
DELAWARE – Across Delmarva, a blossoming community of writers continues to grow. Good Morning Delmarva highlighted a local author and businesswoman, Gina Wilson, who released her debut fiction novel earlier this year.
Wilson, located in the first state, is an executive coach, and as a Delaware-Certified Women’s Business Enterprise, she tells us she’s committed to empowering women leaders.
She’s written several non-fiction books that touch on a variety of topics, such as comprehensive guides for students in college and teaching success-generating behaviors for those in the workforce.
Wilson, on says as an executive coach, says she wanted to reach more people, so once she translated her vast knowledge on paper, she found her niche. “A lot of the time, they’re dealing with stress and burn-out and such, and one of the things we do in coaching is we look for moments of experiencing flow. Flow state, which in psychology means you’re immersed in an activity that you choose.” Wilson goes on to say, “It’s something that when you finish, you feel this sense of renewal and energy.”
“Unfortunately, as a coach, I either get the top performers or the poor performers, and everybody in the middle usually doesn’t get sent to coaching by their company or their employer – I thought those people in the middle could probably benefit from coaching so I’m going to write a book about it. So I started writing, and I realized that’s when I started experiencing flow,” says Wilson. Her debut novel, Silicon Valley East, is a tribute to women in STEM. This inspirational story follows a determined young woman who shakes up the tech world in early 1980s Corporate America.
Wilson tells WMDT, she drew from her own experience working in one of the country’s key tech hubs to provide a unique perspective on the transformative period. She says she hopes this novel can inspire readers to pursue their passions and believe in themselves and their abilities to drive innovation. “Her journey takes her all kinds of places and while she’s gaining her independence and confidence, she’s gaining industry knowledge and advancing her career, but I think the biggest message is to believe in yourself and follow your passion, because when you follow your passion, then you use that as a guide post for crafting your career then you almost don’t work a day in your life.”
Silicon Valley East, as well as Wilson’s two non-fiction books, are available now and can be purchased through Ingram, Amazon, and booksellers everywhere, or on the author’s website.
