Emergency crews respond to fuel leak in Pocomoke River

POCOMOKE, Md. – Crews were called to a fuel leak in the Pocomoke River Tuesday evening.

We’re told emergency crews responded to a report of a strong fuel odor coming from a boat that has been docked in the Pocomoke River since 2019. Responders confirmed that the vessel was actively leaking fuel into the river, and containment booms were placed around the boat to soak up and help prevent further spread of the fuel.

Officials say the owner of the vessel has been contacted and is currently out of the country. Efforts are underway to coordinate with them regarding next steps and responsibility for the incident.

Pocomoke City Mayor Todd Nock says further updates will be shared as they become available.
