Dover area shooting leaves one injured, police investigating
DOVER, Del. – An investigation is underway into a shooting that left one injured Thursday evening in Dover.
At around 6:15 p.m., Delaware State Police responded to the 1500 block of Nathaniel Mitchell Road for a reported shooting, learning that a 19-year-old man had been shot. The victim reportedly self-transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The subsequent investigation revealed that an unknown man allegedly got out of a maroon colored Kia Sportage, fired shots at the victim, got back in the vehicle, and fled the scene. An occupied home and vehicle on the property were also hit by gunfire.
Just after 9 p.m., troopers saw a maroon Kia Sportage that was reported stolen and matched the description of the vehicle involved in the shooting, driving northbound on Walker Road near Bicentennial Boulevard. Troopers tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver sped away, leading police on a chase through several area roads. The car eventually came to a stop in the 400 block of Sorrell Circle in Smyrna, at which time the five occupants reportedly fled. A search of the area led troopers to find four juveniles who fled from the vehicle.
The fifth unknown suspect remains at large.
Three of the juveniles, a 17-year-old male, 15-year-old female, and 12-year-old female, were each charged with receiving stolen property over $1500 and resisting arrest, and released to a parent/guardian. The fourth, a 10-year-old male, was not charged and also released to a parent/guardian.
