Delaware officials partnering with the Food Bank for a donation drive

DELAWARE – In response to the recent federal funding cuts, Delaware House Democrats will be teamed up with the Food Bank of Delaware to host a donation drive and raise awareness.

The Trump Administration’s cuts to the USDA have resulted in the cancellation of 750,000 pounds of food meant to be delivered to the Food Bank of Delaware between April and July 2025.

The USDA’s Emergency Food Assistance Program supplies essential items like fresh produce, dairy, protein and shelf-stable items, and over half of the food distributed by the food Bank of Delaware came from this program.

Representative Eric Morrison organized the event and said as a volunteer to the Food Bank for over 20 years, he took these cuts personally.

“Just between Aprill and July the Food Bank of Delaware is going to lose 900,000 meals… So, 1 in 8 Delawareans is food insecure, and 1 in 5 children is food insecure. And the food insecurity in Delaware especially hurts the elderly, children, individuals with disabilities.”

A similar donation drive will be held on Thursday, April 3 from 6-8 p.m., at the food Bank’s Milford location 102 Delaware Veterans Blvd. For more information on how to donate to or volunteer with the Food Bank of Delaware, visit their website.
