Delaware launches video upgrades to E911 service
DOVER, Del. — Delaware has become one of the first states in the nation to implement live video streaming and real-time text translation capabilities in its 911 system. The Dover Police Department Communications Center is leading the rollout, with plans to expand the features statewide by 2026.
Governor Matthew Meyer, along with state and emergency officials, demonstrated the new technology during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. The upgrades, part of the state’s NextGen E911 initiative, allow 911 operators to view emergencies via live video and communicate with callers through translated text messages—enhancing situational awareness and emergency response.
Funded by the state’s E911 Emergency Reporting System Fund and supported by vendor Intrado, the system upgrades aim to improve outcomes during critical incidents. Delaware has eight Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) across New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties.
Officials say the enhancements are a major step forward in modernizing emergency communications to match evolving technology and public needs.
