Cape baseball stays undefeated beating Sussex Tech
LEWES, Del. – Cape Henlopen baseball advanced their record to a perfect 8-0 on the season with a 7-1 victory at home over Sussex Tech on Thursday.
Tech opened the scoring in the top of the first with a sac fly, but would not score another run in the game.
Cape steadily built their lead, scoring two in the bottom of the first, one in the second, and two more in the third for a 5-1 lead after three complete frames.
The Vikings would tack on single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to extend their lead to 7-1, which would be the final score.
Cape starting pitcher Jaxon Clampitt notched the win, allowing just one run and two hit across seven innings.
After the game, Head Coach Ben Evick said, “Jackson Clampitt stepped on the mound today and had good stuff, and filled up the strike zone, and competed. He competed at the plate. We did a nice job in the box today against–[Tech starter Sean] Ely’s a good pitcher and we had a good approach against him. 11 hits, we feel good about how we were swinging the bats today and defensively we made every play.”
