Worcester on Wheels

POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – Teachers are finding a way to provide after-school activities for those who cannot stay in Pocomoke City.

Each month, Pocomoke Elementary teachers jump on the Worcester on Wheels bus to give back to their children outside of school. The mobile unit allows the teachers to literally meet children where they are, and ensures no children are left out.

Community School Liaison Mark Thompson is the driver. “Kids are excited when we pull up, they come running up to the bus. And then what we do is we get out and the teachers read to the students, give them books, and then we’ll give them snacks and then we’ll move on to our next location.”

Teacher Lisa Balance is one of the readers, “We just take the time to read to them and show them that we care, and that reading is important.” They say this is a great way to connect with students outside of the schoolhouse.

Interested parents can sign up for the Worcester on Wheels bus on the school’s app, or by calling the school.
