Worcester County is considering a proposal to increase water rates

WORCESTER CO, Md. – Worcester County is considering a proposal to increase water rates across 11 service areas. This is due to an effort to catch up to $9 million of countywide lapses in operation and financial management.

The proposal at the last commissioner’s meeting would require all service areas to equally share the burden. Commissioner Chip Bertino confirmed to WMDT that Ocean Pines only contributed $118,000 to the deficit.

He believes its outrageous that the community residents should pay for more than their share of the deficit. “Down to its core, this is a matter of fairness, and regardless of your service area, you pay what it costs to operate and maintain the service area in which you live. Nothing more, and nothing less.

Bertino hopes that there will be a new proposal at the next Worcester County Commissioners meeting on April 1st.
