Wor-Wic College job fair brings out hundreds

SALISBURY, Md. – Hundreds of enthusiastic job-seekers were on hand for Wor-Wic College’s Annual Spring Job Fair.

In all, more than 40 employers participated in the job fair.

Eager job-seekers we spoke with say nowadays, it can be difficult to find a job.

“I’m doing my best to try and find the best job for what I’m interested in and sometimes it’s a little tough to get out there,” said Rebecca Jones-Hochmuth.

Potential employers lined the gym of Guerrieri Hall.

Some we spoke with agreed that sometimes it can be difficult to find the right person for the job.

“Being able to perform those tasks and do the duties that is asked of this job sometimes can be quite difficult,” said Cpl. Gaba with the Fruitland Police Department, “especially because you don’t join our job for the pay, you’re doing it cause you want to do it and these days it’s kind of hard to find people who have that.”

The job fair was open to the public, in addition to current students and alumni.

“If somebody comes and they’re not sure what their transferrable skills are and what they have to offer, they should talk to each and every employer because sometimes an employer that might not be in their area of industry that they thought about might have other opportunities that they didn’t know, so I would encourage job-seekers to talk to each and every employer and see what they’re hiring for,” said Lori Smoot, Director of Career and Testing Services at Wor-Wic College.

Looking ahead, Smoot said we’re still seeing how the current presidential administration will affect the job market.

“I think we’re still waiting to see what’s going to happen, but we’re still obviously here at Wor-Wic preparing students to give them their best futures with their education and career opportunities and it’s very important for us with the collaboration that we have with our employers and the community that we serve,” she said.
