Weather Tidbits: Monthly Daylight Change
This edition of Weather Tidbits will be discussing the monthly daylight change across the country. After the winter solstice, the United States starts to gain daylight, which continues up to the summer solstice. Out of all the months, we gain the most amount of daylight through the month of March. In March, the country’s northern tier gains 90 to 100 minutes of daylight. The southern United States gains about 40 to 50 minutes of daylight. In between, Salisbury gains roughly 70 minutes. The amount of daylight gained starts to decrease afterward up to the first day of summer. During June, most of the country gains less than 10 minutes of daylight. We then gradually lose daylight up to the winter solstice. The most amount of day loss occurs in October. 100 to 90 minutes of lost daylight for the northern US, around 70 minutes in Salisbury, and about 50 to 40 minutes in the southern US.
