The University of Maryland Eastern Shore to make budget cuts to fight against state deficit
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – UMES is looking to make department-wide cuts by 5%, as the state grapples with a $3 billion budget deficit. Governor Wes Moore recently announced all higher institutions in the state could see cuts.
UMES officials expected these changes and are getting the University ready. Strategic Communications and Marketing VP, Robert Vickers, said the cuts shouldn’t impact the facility.
“Vice President for the administration of finance told the institution that we have made some preemptive cuts, and are prepared to make some more cuts that the state is requiring. However, it should not hurt the employment of our faculty and staff.”
Although nothing’s official yet, the state is exploring solutions.
