The Salisbury Fire Department has new risk assessment map
SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury Fire Department has a new study that will help it better protect the community. It plans to use data collected from Salisbury’s Geographic Information Systems department. The two departments have been working on this for six months. The Department Chief, Rob Frampton, is happy to get the new research out to the public.
“To my knowledge, this is the first time the department has done a community assessment. Our goal is to first off- to identify the top-10 risks that our department and city face.”
This new research will help the department respond to volatile incidents more efficiently and effectively. Chief Frampton indicated that the assessment will facilitate progress in several key areas. The website even has a portal for residents to gather more insights.
“It also has a unique little area, so people can type in an address. Say they’re interested in buying a property in the fire district, and it’ll tell them how far away they are from a fire station.”
It will also map out specific strengths and detail weaknesses in a more comprehensive way. Chief Frampton believes this will make their approaches to safety more sustainable.
“It looks at things such as the various populations throughout our community, socio-economic classes, and geography. We can change and adjust our plan accordingly.”
Chief Frampton thinks the map is essentially a planning tool and will only benefit the department in the long term.
“We can target our programs and purchasing to make us more efficient and effective in the services we deliver to the community.”
