Sports Wagering helping sustain the State

MARYLAND – Maryland’s sports wagering market completed its ninth-best month in February 2025, generating $6,350,174 in contributions to the state.

Contributions to the state from sports wagering are directed to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which supports public education programs. Maryland had 11 mobile sports wagering platforms and 13 retail sportsbook locations that operated during February.

Managing director of communication of Maryland Lottery and Gaming Seth Elkins says Maryland has already surpassed last year’s numbers with 4 months left to go.

“To date, more than $149 million from sports wagering has gone to these education programs, and in fiscal year 2025, we’re 8 months into at this point, sports wagering has contributed more than $61 million to the Blueprint.”

Elkins says March is problem gambling awareness month or P-Gam, which correlates with ‘March Madness’. He says the Maryland Lottery and Gaming strongly encourages responsible play, and to be careful of parlay wagers.
