Protesters rally in Dover condemning Pres. Trump’s executive orders
DOVER, Del. – People across the U.S. protested in what they called a March against Monarchy.
In Dover, protestors gathered outside of Legislative Hall, yelling various chants directed at President Donald Trump, calling on him to halt the deportation of immigrants, reverse the firings of federal workers, among other demands.
“I’m just so ashamed of everything that’s going on with Musk, how they’re hurting the American people,” said protester, Paula Workman.
In the first two months of Trump’s presidency, thousands of federal workers have been fired or incentivized to quit.
Some at the march said they know people impacted by the job cuts, and protester Paula Workman said it’s only a matter of time before the First State is hit hard by the wave.
“It took us 200 and some years to build this up and they’re demolishing it in weeks,” said Workman. “People don’t understand, it’s going to start trickling down to our state, because if the state is not getting money from the government, how are we going to pay the workers here?”
Others said showing up at Wednesday’s march was a risk in itself. A protestor named Elizabeth opted to only use her first name out of fear of retaliation from Trump supporters, and said she wore a face mask not only to protect her health, but also her identity.
“I was really scared to even come to this one, just for fear of retaliation, or MAGA finding out who I am or where I live and targeting me, to possibly lose my job, or targeting my kids,” said Elizabeth.
Sending a strong message to Delaware lawmakers, protestor Martin Krebs said now is the time for them to take a stance against the administration, before it’s too late.
“I think that they should speak their mind and speak up and speak out against, what I find to be, the total disregard for our constitution and our way of life,” said Krebs.
