National Agriculture Week on Delmarva
DELMARVA – March 17- 23 marks National Agricultural Week, a time when we learn and acknowledge the many agricultural endeavors that benefit our environment, especially in Delmarva.
Way of Life
From the Chesapeake Bay to the Atlantic Ocean our waterways are a big source of agriculture on the shore. Many Watermen make their livelihoods on the bay, and the residents enjoy the taste.
The Maryland Department of Agriculture works with Bay Restoration, climate resilience, and environmental justice. They also maintain that crops are a big source of revenue, and farmers are our foundation.
Climate Change
Addressing climate change is also something many agriculture-based groups do on the Shore, like The Nature Conservancy of Delaware. They said in part quote, “Guided by science, we create innovative, on-the-ground solutions to our world’s toughest challenges so that nature and people can thrive together and help make cities more sustainable.”
Advocates have pushed Wildlife Connectivity and Crossings Acts to legislation helping endangered bats, either way, Delmarva is determined to protect the environment. Click here for more information on the Nature Conservancy of Delaware.
