Maryland’s Blueprint Spending Plan is controversial and lawmakers are at odds
MARYLAND. – Maryland’s Blueprint Spending Plan for education is controversial, and has stirred between lawmakers who are already working to address the state’s deficit.
“Unfortunately, it’s become quite contentious, it’s several of us for quite some time that have encouraged revisions be made to the blueprint plan.”
The Maryland House of Delegates approved an amended plan. On Tuesday, the house rejected cuts proposed by Governor Wes. Moore
leading to likely heated showdown. “Unfortunately, on the house side, they don’t want to make any changes at all, i think that’s a irresponsible position.”
“It’s important for us to utilize all our tools that we have, but be realistic as a state of what we can afford, meanwhile still keeping the children’s best interests at heart.”
She states the state needs to monitor the fiscal situation, but doesn’t want to completely slow down the strategy.
“Blueprint has been designed for 10 years, what happens if we push that to 11 or 12 years? We still very well may be on that trajectory, but it might have to be paused a little bit to address our current climate.”
This will likely be one of the most important decisions we see in the general assembly.
