Local business rallying around young Pittsville couple

PITTSVILLE, Md. – Chris and Krista Dorsey’s love story is unique.

The couple started dating in 2022 after meeting at a game stop. They built a life together, hoping to get married one day.

But those plans were put on pause in 2023, when then 27-year-old Chris was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer.

“It’s one of those things that nobody wants and is especially hard seeing it happen to someone that you loved the most in this world,” said Krista.

Over the last two years, Chris’s health has taken a series of turns, some days, he said, are better than others.

Earlier this year, his health began declining tremendously and he was hospitalized. But the two were determined to continue honoring their love story, so, they wed.

“We didn’t know what the future would hold, so we just wanted to do that as soon as possible,” said Krista.

The young couple tied the knot on February 24th at the hospital. Their story touched people across the Shore, like Michael Borkoski, owner of Atlantis Tattoo in Salisbury. He wanted to give the newlyweds the gift of financial security.

“A lot of people do know us as being really helpful in the community. We try to help when help is needed,” said Borkoski.

Michael is planning an event where people can make a donation and get a cancer ribbon tattoo, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Dorsey family.

“He’s only a couple years younger than me,” said Borkoski. “It’s just really sad to see the family going through that right now.”

For Chris, he’s happy to see the community rallying around him and his wife.

“Making sure that once I’m gone, my family has a way to continue paying things off and not being drug down a hole,” said Chris.

The tattoo event will be held at Atlantis Tattoo on Sunday, March 23rd. Artists will be tattooing clients on a first-come-first-serve basis.
