Junior Achievement hosts 7th annual ‘Inspire Day’ at Wicomico Civic Center
SALISBURY, Md. – Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore hosted ‘Inspire Day’ for 8th-grade middle schoolers. Roughly 150 businesses seek to engage students’ interest. The event hoped to inspire youth and help them find a career path.
The President of the organization, Jayme Hayes, hopes to give back to the younger generation. “The goal of today is to inspire youth to see all the opportunities here on the Eastern Shore. We have everything from a weather balloon, sonograms, and virtual flight simulators.”
Over 4,500 students from across the eastern shore traveled to the Wicomico Civic Center. Schools from Wicomico County to Accomack County participated. There were representatives from Delmarva Power, the Salisbury Fire Department, and NASA. It was a chance to get students hands-on experiences. An 8th-grade student from Pocomoke Middle School said she might have found a career path.
“The ultrasound was interesting. The instructor was super nice, and she guided me through all the material, and answered my questions.” Her classmate had a similar experience. “I saw what I want to do, which is ultrasound; because I want to deal with the heart and see what you can do.”
JA continues to support learners by providing insights and connections. Hayes said inspiration can come in different forms. “It inspires them to look at all the opportunities, because you can’t be what you can’t see.”
The event will take place tomorrow at the Civic Center from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For more information about Junior Achievement – visit here.
