Good Morning Delmarva discussing the 2nd annual Race for Open Space

WMDT – Runners, the Race for Open Space is back for its 2nd year!

It’ll take place Saturday, April 5th in Lewes.

It’s an initiative by the Greater Lewes Foundation and it began as a means to raise funding to purchase the only forested property in the city.

It would cost 8 million dollars, and they were able to raise 30 thousand last year to preserve this area that has significant environmental standing.

It’s a good source of clean water and can help midget flooding which we’re told is crucial because Delaware is the lowest laying state in the country.

Pam Costanzi, Campaign Manager for the four street preserve campaign, says it’s a great way to reach the community and bring awareness to the initiative.

The settlement date is in September, giving them 6 months to meet their goal, and this race will help them make it to the finish line.

Again, it will take place Saturday, April 5th starting at 9 a.m.
