Germantown School to hosts forum about legendary 6888 Central Postal Battalion

BERLIN, Md. – The Germantown School is hosting an event on Saturday. The school will highlight the 6888 postal battalion—the all-African-American all-women military unit.

They are famous for their motto, “No mail, low morale.” During World War 2, the group cleared 17 million pieces of mail in 3 months. It was estimated the job would require several years to complete.

When enlistment opened for women during the war, 150,000 women answered the call. 4% were African American women.

Dr. Clara L. Small wants to shed light on the trailblazers in the 6888. “There were 5 women from the lower Eastern Shore of MD, so we’re emphasizing their contributions and showing that women participated in the war, and outside of the war as well.”

The event is from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. – at 10223 Trappe Road in Berlin, MD.
