GEORGETOWN, Del. – A Georgetown man was arrested over the weekend following a head-on crash.

At around 9:40 p.m. Saturday, troopers were called to a reported crash on Sussex Highway, north of Adams Road. At the scene, troopers met with 25-year-old Juventino Hernandez Montoya, the driver of a Nissan Altima involved in the crash. Police say they smelled the odor of alcoholic beverages on him and noticed other signs of impairment.

Further investigation revealed that a 56-year-old Salisbury woman was driving a Kia Sorento southbound on Sussex Highway, north of Adams Road, when Hernandez Montoya was allegedly driving northbound in the southbound lanes, hitting the Kia head-on.

All five occupants of the Kia reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. There were two passengers in Hernandez Montoya’s vehicle who also sustained non-life-threatening injuries. One was taken to a local hospital, while the other refused treatment at the scene.

Standardized Field Sobriety Tests confirmed that Hernandez Montoya was impaired, and he was subsequently arrested. He was charged with first degree vehicular assault, six counts of second degree vehicular assault, driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, driving without a valid license, and other traffic related offenses.
