Ellendale Fire Company battles numerous fires on Tuesday
DELAWARE – The Ellendale Fire Company says it responded to a total of eight calls on Tuesday.
The first report came in at around 11:30 a.m. regarding a brush fire in the 8400 block of Slaughter Beach Road. While returning from that call, crews were sent to a reported woods fire in the 10000 block of Greentop Road, north of Ellendale. It was determined that a resident was trying to burn a stump when the fire spread to the nearby woods.
Following the second call, crews were rerouted to a grass fire in the 18000 block of Fleatown Road, north of Ellendale.
After extinguishing the third fire, crews returned to the station before being dispatched to another grass fire at N. Old State Road and Johnson Road in Lincoln. Another field fire was reported a short time later, which was threatening structures on Valley Force Road in Milford.
Just after 5:30 p.m., crews were called to a vehicle fire in the 18000 block of McColleys Chapel Road, south of Ellendale. Crews arrived to find two storage trailers involved, one reportedly filled with paint thinner. Crews worked together to extinguish the blaze.
While working on the storage trailer fire, Ellendale was alerted to another vegetation fire in the 18000 block of Sharons Road in Ellendale.
The final call came in shortly after 8 p.m. for an automatic crash notification in the 14000 block of Staytonville Road.
