Dorchester County Public Schools cancel summer school in 2025

Dorchester County Public Schools

DORCHESTER COUNTY, Md- On Thursday Dorchester County Public Schools announced they would not offer summer school in 2025.  The cancellation includes elementary and middle summer school sessions, as well as the high school credit recovery summer program.  Officials say any student who does not pass a course will not have the opportunity to make up the work this summer.

However, the summer school cancellation does not impact the Extended School Year (ESY) for students receiving special education services per their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). This program is federally mandated and will continue as planned. This cancellation also does not impact the Summer Career Enrichment Program (SCEP) being offered in Talbot County as this program is funded from an outside source.

The Board explains this cancellation is part of their effort to balance their upcoming budget.
