Del. AG, other states file lawsuit to stop federal mass firings

DELAWARE – Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings and 20 other states have filed a lawsuit to stop federal mass firings and reinstate those who have been fired.

This follows mass firings by federal agencies affecting states nationwide. Officials say these mass firings threaten to strain state resources to support recently unemployed workers and to review and adjudicate claims of unemployment assistance.

Additionally, AG Jennings and other states say these lawoffs will harm state finances, undermine vital state-federal partnerships, and cripple the states’ ability to plan for and mitigate these harms. Jennings and her colleagues argue that the Trump Administration was required to follow federal laws and regulations to ensure personnel like military veterans are given preference in retaining their jobs.

Jennings is seeking an immediate ruling by the Court to reinstate unlawfully fired employees, stop further similar terminations, and identify affected employees.

Maryland and the District of Columbia also joined in the lawsuit.
