Cambridge townhome fire under investigation
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – A two-alarm house fire in Cambridge remains under investigation after flames broke out late Thursday night.
Officials said the fire was likely a result of an explosion at the residence in the 400 block of Wood Duck Drive.
The fire was reported just before 11:30 by a neighbor in the area.
“We’re not looking at arson in this fire, we’ve had investigators there since shortly after midnight and we’re looking at the possibility of a gas explosion in the middle of the row townhome,” said Matt Stevens, Deputy Chief State Fire Marshal.
It reportedly took around 50 firefighters from Cambridge and surrounding communities to quell the flames.
Officials said the fire started in a two-story townhome. The home where it started is a total loss and both neighboring homes sustained significant fire damage.
“There was no injuries as a result of the fire,” said Stevens. “The fire did displace the residents on either side of the involved townhome as a result of fire and heat damage and they’re all being assisted by the American Red Cross.”
Officials say smoke alarms and a residential sprinkler system were activated.
The total cost of the damages is estimated at $750,000.
