Cambridge-SD takes home MPSSAA 1A Championship

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Cambridge South Dorchester beat SEED in the MPSSAA 1A Championship Friday afternoon, 36-33 in College Park.

In a game filled with intense defense, SEED led the Vikings 8-7 at the end of the first quarer. By the end of the half, with Sterling Perkins leading the Vikings offense, Cambridge was able to come back to lead 16-14.

The Sabres would outscore Cambridge 12-9 in the third, bringing a 26-25 lead into the final period.

In the fourth quarter with under 30 seconds to play, Koby Ennals made a three-pointer in order to take the game into overtime, tied at 33.

In overtime, a Sterling Perkins putback layup with 0.4 seconds left cemented Cambridge’s victory, with the Vikings winning the MPSSAA 1A Championship.

Koby Ennals finished the night with a team high of 16 points and 4 rebounds, Sterling Perkins finished the game with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals.

After the game, Head Coach Shawn Tucker talked about what he said to his team going into overtime and how they pulled through:

“All you have to do is win by one,” Tucker told his team. “We just we struggled a little bit. We start shooting a little further back. But our guys are resilient and these guys stayed calm in the huddle and the the whole time. We just been together for a long time now. We kind of know each other and it balances out.”
