Cambridge getting set to renovate historic City Hall
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – The City of Cambridge will be revamping one of its most historic buildings.
Monday, city officials announced plans to renovate the Historic City Hall located at 307 Gay Street.
The estimated cost to renovate the building and surrounding parking lots is around $10.5 million.
Cambridge’s City Manager Glenn Steckman said it will not be able to fully fund the project with grants and will research additional means of funding for the project.
So far the project has secured $1,175,000.
“A team of city staff employees have been created to look at what we would like the exterior to look like inside, with the understanding that we’re not just planning for now, we’re looking for the future and what will Cambridge look like for city government in the next 25 years,” said Steckman.
Renovations will focus on restoring the clock tower, addressing facade issues, and asbestos and mold abatement.
A target start date will be sometime in May.
