American Red Cross asks for donations ahead of Giving Day

DELMARVA- Many of us have or may know someone who has needed blood. That being said, The National Capital and the Greater Chesapeake Region are issuing a call to help ensure no one faces a disaster alone by donating on the American Red Cross Giving Day, on March 26.

According to the American Red Cross, within the first 50 days of 2025, volunteers responded to more big disasters in the U.S. than days, like floods and fires. Meanwhile, blood donations have gone uncollected so far this year.

Executive director of the Red Cross of Delmarva Theresa Young says testing has expanded to include a free screen for prediabetes and diabetes, and Young says there’s more than one way to give back.

“You can give online you can send a check into the offices, whatever moves you. But not only treasure, we love time and talent and blood donations as well… While I can tell you that $100 is what it costs to provide a family of 5 breakfast, lunch, and dinner. What we really are doing is providing hope.”

The Red Cross says they supply 40% of the nation’s blood so donations are a necessity. March is actually Red Cross Month, so to find your local chapter and join the cause, visit their website and get involved!
