AAA warns of increased pedestrian dangers after time change
DELMARVA – As clocks spring forward for Daylight Saving Time, AAA is urging both pedestrians and drivers to be extra cautious, especially during early morning commutes.
With the time change, road conditions will be much darker than drivers have grown accustomed to in recent weeks. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, nearly 78% of pedestrian fatalities occurred at night in 2022.
Ragina Ali, a spokesperson for AAA, emphasized the importance of visibility for pedestrians. “Make sure you’re visible by wearing bright clothing, walking on sidewalks, using crosswalks, and avoiding areas between parked cars,” she said.
For drivers, AAA advises wearing seatbelts, minimizing distractions, and adhering to speed limits—particularly in neighborhoods and school zones—where children may be present.
