UMES holds panel highlighting their Land-grant history
Princess Anne, Md. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s School of Agricultural and Natural Sciences is set to host their Spring Seminar.
Dr. Carolyn B. Brooks is a MES Faculty Member Emerita and the former dean of the School of Agricultural and Natural Sciences. She will deliver a talk titled “135 Years of the Second Morrill Act: Shaping Land-grant Universities and HBCUs.”
UMES began as an 1890 land grant college and officials say it’s important to highlight those roots, especially during Black History Month.
AVP Strategic Communications Charmagne Helton is excited to see this event through. “The Second Morrill Act of 1890 recognized and created the path to establishing Black colleges like UMES. There were 19 established universities as a result of that act.”
The seminar will be held on February 20th from 11 a.m. to noon in Lecture Hall 1126, College Backbone Road, School of Pharmacy and Health Professions building on the UMES campus.
