Two shootings in Somerset County leave officials looking for answers

 

 

SOMERSET COUNTY, Md. – Two separate shooting investigations are underway in the county. One shooting was fatal, and it happened in Crisfield.

Another involved a state trooper in Marion Station. The incidents were only 7 miles and a day apart from each other. In Marion Station, Maryland State Police are leading an investigation into an officer-involved shooting. Around 8 p.m., troopers conducted an assault complaint on the 5600 block of Tulls Corner Road.

After making contact, officers said the suspect was armed and proceeded to fire. The suspect is not being identified, but was sent to R Adams Shock Trauma Center.

Just a day before, another shooting shocked Somerset County. Around 1:15 a.m. Saturday, Crisfield Police responded to the Cove Street Apartments. Upon arrival, officers identified 43-year-old Keyon Honesty of Princess Anne, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Honesty was taken to the hospital, where he later died. The incident left the community shaken up, and the news devastated Mayor Darlene Taylor.

She assures the community that city leaders will do everything to keep residents safe.

“Although Crisfield has its challenges, but we are a very safe community. I want to thank Eric Lee, who is the new police chief. He is helping and coordinating these efforts. The Crisfield police department has been on sight, night and day to ensure public safety.”

Reverend Emanuel Johnson is holding a vigil for the victims at 7 p.m. at the Shiloh United Methodist Church.
