The Ocean Pines Fire Department moving forward with new facility

OCEAN PINES, Md. – The Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department is getting a new South Fire Station. The most recent update points to a referendum vote later in the summer of 2025.

The current proposal recommends a 15,000-square-foot facility. There are also hopes of an additional space of 760 square feet to enhance accessibility.

The project secured $1.7 million in grants and an additional $700,000 from the fire department’s fundraising. The fire department’s President Joe Enste said it’s been a long time coming.

“The quarters that we currently have are getting tight. We’re hoping this new station will provide ample living space for those working 24/7. We also want the space to be for fellowships, and space for training opportunities, without stepping on each other’s toes.”

The referendum and the Summer 2025 Board of Directors election will occur simultaneously. Allowing Ocean Pines homeowners to vote on the funding of the new station. If approved, construction is expected to begin in October 2025 and be completed by February 2027.
