The ‘Economic Blackout’ starts on February 28th, and will allow residents to counter the attack on D-E-I

SALISBURY, Md. – Local businesses and community members are coming together for an ‘economic blackout’. The idea is for residents to boycott several businesses for what they perceive as an attack on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Some companies include Amazon, Walmart, major retailers, and fast-food chains. The protestors’ hope is for people to support black-owned businesses and local businesses instead.

Salisbury Resident, Francis Hooks, said this is about taking a stand and working towards unity.

“Make a point to show, you could be big or small, but be fair to everyone. And to me, that’s what D-E-I is, it’s a fairness thing, or an attempt to make things more fair.”

The blackout is for 24 hours and will officially start at midnight and last until 11:59 pm on Friday.
