Teen arrested following attempted burglary at Dover business
DOVER, Del. – Dover Police have made an arrest in connection to last week’s burglary at Cosmic Smoke after an attempted break-in early Wednesday morning.
Just after 1 a.m. Wednesday, police say the owner of the store called police to report people actively trying to break in at the business. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a broken window to an adjacent business, similar to last week’s burglary. Officers found a 16-year-old male walking nearby, and when they tried to make contact with him, he reportedly led police on a brief foot chase before being taken into custody.
Further investigation revealed that the teen was responsible for last week’s burglary. He was subsequently charged with third degree burglary, attempted third degree burglary, theft $1500 or greater, attempted theft, two counts of wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, second degree conspiracy, two counts of possession of burglar tools, resisting arrest, and two counts of criminal mischief.
He was turned over to a guardian.
Police are searching for two additional suspects involved in the attempted burglary. Anyone with information is urged to contact Dover Police at 302-736-7130.
