Shooting involving 16-year-old Dover High School student under investigation
DOVER, Del. – An investigation is underway following a shooting involving a teenager Wednesday afternoon in Dover.
Just after 2:30 p.m., police say they were called to the area of Village Drive, north of Walker Road, for a reported shooting. The victim, a 16-year-old male, met with officers at the scene.
Further investigation revealed that a Capital School District bus was dropping off a group of Dover High School students when the victim, who was one of the students, was reportedly chased by an unknown masked suspect. The suspect then allegedly began shooting at the victim as they were both running. The bus driver followed safety protocols and immediately left the area to ensure the safety of the children remaining on the bus.
No one was injured.
Police say the victim is being uncooperative with detectives and will not provide any additional information or suspect description. Officers checked the area for the suspect and any individuals that might be associated with the incident, but were unsuccessful. Officers confirmed that the school bus was not hit by gunfire, the driver and remaining students were not harmed, and there were no active threats to the campus.
As a precaution, there will be an increased presence by the Dover Police Department at Dover High School for the rest of the week.
Police ask anyone with information to call 302-736-7130 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
