Salisbury University holds Annual Poetry Read-In for Black History Month
SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University’s list of Black History Month events continues, and they are adding poetry to the mix this year.
Mother and son Carole and Jeffery Boston Weatherford will be reading their book of poetry “Kin: Rooted in Hope” at the annual African American Poetry Read-In. The following day poets will do an “Artist Talk” where they’ll share their creative process when writing.
Associate Professor and Chair of the Black History Month Planning Committee Dr. April Logan says programs such as these encourage literacy and community. “It’s a way to sort of have people think about their beloved poets- African American poets and poems to come together and to enjoy that. You know. a lot of African American literature, poetry, novels fiction, that’s another way we continue our history and share our history. ”
Salisbury University’s Read-In will take place on campus Wednesday, February 26 at 6:00 pm in Conway Hall, and the Artist Tak will be Feb 27th at 5:00 pm in the Wicomico Room.
