PETA shows up in Salisbury to protest outside Taylor’s BBQ

SALISBURY, Md. – PETA showed up in Salisbury on Monday to protest outside Taylor’s BBQ restaurant.

The animal rights group brought their “Hell on Wheels” truck that’s wrapped with images of pigs and fitted with speakers that blast the sound of them suffering.

The truck pulled up outside Taylor’s BBQ around 4 p.m. where it parked right on the property. Only a few minutes went by before restaurant management came outside and asked them to leave.

WMDT’s Rob Petree caught up with them across the street where he asked why they chose this restaurant to protest in the first place.

“They get a lot of traffic,” explained Andrija Barak, a tour administrator with PETA. “We wanted people to come up to the truck and they would be shocked and horrified to learn about the horrific treatment of these pigs from birth until death, it’s horrific. Nobody needs to eat meat, or dairy, or eggs to survive.”

PETA’s vehicle, a truck that’s designed to look like a slaughter transport covered with images of real pigs on their way to slaughter, could be spotted from the highway, with some motorists on Route 13 slowing down to get a closer look.

“It’s traveling so that anyone can see, and obviously hear, the suffering,” Barak explained. “130 million pigs every year are killed in America that undergo horrific treatment, suffering, and pain before becoming an item on a grocery store shelf or an option on a menu such as this restaurant.”

The group says they’ll stop at nothing in order to continue their mission to get the word out and raise awareness to the suffering of pigs.

“Behind every rack of ribs or barbecue pork sandwich is a once-living, sensitive individual who was crammed onto a truck for a terrifying, miserable journey to their death,” said PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA’s ‘Hell on Wheels’ truck is an appeal to anyone who eats pigs to remember that the meat industry is cruel to them and that the only kind meal is a vegan one.”

WMDT News reached out to Taylor’s BBQ for a response to the protest but have not heard back.
