Parkside High School holds open house for Career and Technical Education program
WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – Wicomico County Public Schools held an open house, and invited the Career and Technical Education program to help promote their apprenticeships.
The county did this to prepare their students for tomorrow’s workforce. Tim Bozeman, the Parkside High School Community School Coordinator, appreciates events like these. “We get a lot of community support, and this is what we try to do, get the community in the building and help our students and families.”
The Career and Technical Education offers great programs, like welding, cosmetology, criminal justice, among others. CTE supervisor Bryan Ashby believes this is one of the best programs in the state.
“One thing we like to tell our students is, everyone will get a job, but we want you to have a career, and have something you can grow with, and if it requires additional education, we help them balance that.”
The program provides the pathway for students to get involved, and even promotes competition with their Skills USA program. Which is designed to challenge students at the state and national level. One student representative, Mejenna Louis-Jeune, said this program can change people’s lives.
“Once you’re out of high school and trying to get your certifications, in many of these careers, you’re paying a lot of money out of pocket yourself, but here in CTE, you’re paying very little.”
Ashby commends the instructors for all their hard work, “what makes great CTE is our instructors, and the relationship our instructors have with students.”
Skills USA is holding a Sunday dinner fundraiser for the Career and Technical Education program. For more information, contact Mrs. Alison Cornish at 410-677-5144
