Officer involved shooting investigation
MARION STATION, Md. – A trooper-involved shooting investigation out of Somerset County is taking place.
Around 8 p.m. Sunday, February 16th, Maryland State Police were conducting a criminal investigation when they encountered a suspect in the 5600 block of Tulls Corner Road in Marion Station. The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect had a firearm. A trooper, responding to assist a fellow law enforcement officer with an assault complaint, fired at the suspect.
Medical treatment was administered, and the suspect, who is not identified at this time, was taken to R Adams Shock Trauma Center for treatment. There were no other injuries reported during the incident. A firearm has also been recovered from the scene.
Per department policy and standard procedures, the trooper involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation along with the Office of the State’s Attorney for Somerset County. The Maryland State Police Internal Affairs Unit will also be conducting an investigation.
