Milford Senior Center hosts Black History Month presentation
MILFORD, Del. – The Milford Senior Center, held a presentation for Black History Month.
The Center highlighted the Milford Eleven, a group of pioneers who integrated Milford High School in 1954.
The students faced racism and an area that was afraid of change. Eventually, though, their pursuit of equal education paid off. Paving the way for desegregated schools across the nation.
Executive Director, Amy Waltz, said the center loves organizing events for the community.
“Anytime you’re recognizing history, I think it’s important to get the elderly involved. They were actively involved in those movements, and while they don’t remember too many details, they can provide that knowledge.”
