Have you completed your FAFSA? SU official says now is the time
SALISBURY, Md. – The Free Application for Federal Student Aid deadline snuck up on Salisbury University sophomore, Colin McEvers, who said time is of the essence.
Last academic year, FAFSA updated its services to make applying for student aid easier, and the application launched in December instead of October, which delayed some financial aid packages.
“The only difficult thing last year was just getting it back, because it took so long because they were streamlining it, and I guess were updating it to make it better and make it more efficient,” said McEvers. “It took a while for us to get the word back as to how much we’d be getting.”
Despite the hiccups, many students found it easier to complete their FAFSA. Freshman Micha Roberts said with the click of a button, his parents had access to the application within minutes and were able to complete their part.
“I filled out my part and got access for that email to send it to them and then sent them the invitation and then I just sent them a text and a call saying, ‘Hey, I finished it. It should be in your email, finish it whenever you get the time,” said Roberts.
Director of financial aid and scholarships at Salisbury University, Mason White said with just a few hours to go, parents and students should prioritize completing their FAFSA for the upcoming school year, to have their fair shot at accessing more than $130 million in Maryland state funding.
“We encourage families and students to sit down to their computer or their mobile device and submit the 25/26 FAFSA, today, at StudentAid.gov,” said White. “That will maximize any aid opportunities, so you don’t miss out on the March 1st deadline, if you’re a Maryland resident.”
