GMD previews Rehoboth Beach Black American Film Festival
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – While organizations across Delmarva continue to celebrate Black History Month, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society is partnering with the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice to present the 6th annual Rehoboth Beach Black American Film Festival.
Award-winning feature films and documentaries will celebrate the work of black artists in film today and will be presented over three days starting today through Sunday the 23rd.
Films such as The Six Triple Eight, Ernest Cole: Lost and Found, and We Strangers are meant to capture lesser-known stories of African Americans’ contributions
to America which has helped shape today’s American culture. “We believe it’s really important to bring the cinematic arts to our area and to have our community have access to that and celebrate all aspects of our community. Story-telling is so important; You walk a mile in someone’s shoes, and it brings communities together,” says acting Executive Director of the Rehoboth Beach Film Society, Georgoe Farrah.
The society is home to the award-winning Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival. We’re told their mission is to celebrate the power of visual storytelling by showcasing independent films and creating transformative experiences for people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. “We think what we bring is in my mind – curation and community so we help select those films like in the film festival,” says Farrah. “The community seeing a film with others, it’s so much more fun to see a comedy movie in the theatre or to discuss the film afterward.”
An opening reception for Black American Film Festival will be held Friday., February 21 at 6 pm and a Saturday reception will be held at 6 pm.
