Felton man arrested for stealing $4,000 from Grandmother
LEWES, Del. — A 31-year-old Felton man has been arrested after allegedly stealing more than $4,000 from his elderly grandmother, who had been unable to account for the missing funds. On January 17, 2025, the Lewes Police Department was contacted by Excel Care Senior Housing regarding the possible theft from a 76-year-old resident.
Officers learned the woman was months behind on payments and had only two cents in her bank account, despite receiving monthly Social Security payments. An investigation revealed that Zachary R. Thacker, the victim’s grandson and her power of attorney, withdrew the money without her consent, using it to fuel a drug habit.
Following an examination of legal and bank records, police found that Thacker had taken the funds over a period of time. Warrants were issued for his arrest on charges of committing a crime against a vulnerable adult and theft of more than $1,500 from an elderly victim.
On February 5, 2025, Delaware State Police apprehended Thacker at his home. He was interviewed and arrested, then released on his own recognizance with no contact allowed with the victim.
