BERLIN, Md- Colorful Encounters in Berlin, Maryland is a great spot to find your creative side and spend a day making a one-of-a-kind piece. We met up with the Owner Betsie McClimans who helps you shine a light on your creative side.
“You’re coloring in a picture that either you create or we have bottles that have already been customized in the shop.” according to McClimans. The next step was deciding the colors of the project and the paint colors offered aren’t the only options you have. McClimans also tells us “We’re going to learn how to mix the paint. Plus, how to adjust the pains to make different colors.”
You’ll have to decide on a color palette for your project. With varying degrees of difficulty in the designs, coloring the bottle can pose a challenge. There’s good news with room for error on a project! “If you go over the outlines it doesn’t matter since the lines will shine through. So if you’re somebody who likes things to be perfect, there’s no worries with any overlapping” This leads to a more relaxing process during your painting.
While using different techniques to create various textures. This can help with the definition and create contrast in the piece according to McClimans “So the reason why we stick our fingers in the paint is because it creates texture. Plus, there’s something fun about getting messy when we do art.” One thing to note while working on your project is to stay true to the process. McClimans tells us that the paint going on will undergo a lot of changes “So you’re going to paint your bottle and it’s going to look a lot different than what it will look like tomorrow when it completely dries. So the paint will take up to 24 hours to dry completely.”
The drying process helps to bring home the changes to the bottle. The colors begin to take on their final form cultivating the final product “Once it dries you’re going to see through the paint that will allow the light to shine through.” As the paint dries you’ll fill the bottle with fairy lights and plug the cork to complete the project!
