DelDOT, MDOT prep for snowstorm

DELMARVA. – The big snowstorm that Delmarva has been bracing for is here.

DelDOT and MDOT crews were out in full force, prepping days ahead of time to get ahead of slick and slushy road conditions.

“You’ve got to be prepared for that, and we’ll be working through the evening into Wednesday morning,” said MDOT spokesperson, Charlie Gischlar.

He told WMDT crews will be outside plowing the snow as much as they can, but it won’t be until Wednesday that they’re able to clear out the bulk of it from the roads.

“We’ll continue to treat the roadways, and then our goal is, generally between 4-6 hours after the precipitation has come to a complete end, to try to get everything down the barrack pavement, get the shoulders pushed back, that type of thing,” said Gischlar.

C.R. McLeod from DelDOT said they got a head start on treatment, Monday.
Now, it’s just a matter of getting plows on the roads and making sure people drive safely around them.

“We’ve already had several instances this winter of cars attempting to pass plows, following too closely, and have ended up striking the plows, and that ultimately takes a plow out of service,” said McLeod.

Because the snow is denser, McLeod urged Delmarva residents to do their part in keeping themselves and other drivers safe.

“This is going to be a very heavy and wet snow,” said McLeod. “Just reminding everyone as you get out tomorrow, take a few extra minutes to clear your car off. That snow coming off, when you get to highway speeds, it can break windows.”
