DelDOT crews out in force treating roads ahead of winter storm
DOVER, Del. – Heavy snow and hazardous conditions are in the forecast this week as a winter storm is set to impact parts of Delmarva, including Kent and Sussex Counties in Delaware.
As a result of the impending storm, DelDOT crews were out in force Monday pre-treating roads as the snow is expected to start sometime Tuesday afternoon and is expected to get heavier heading into the evening, a time when road conditions could be at their worst.
“We do anticipate that this is going to be a significant accumulating event where work will be continuing through the overnight hours tomorrow night into Wednesday,” explained C.R. McLeod, Director of DelDOT’s Community Relations.
The snow itself is projected to be a heavier, wet snow that will make visibility that much more limited on the roads. When you couple that with the heavy snow rate that’s expected, it will allow for roads to take on more snow, creating hazardous conditions.
“Giving yourself plenty of extra time to get to where you need to go, that’s obviously going to be key,” McLeod said. “We are expecting to see some very heavy bands of snow occurring as we get into tomorrow night as well, so just being prepared. Make sure you’ve got your snow brush, putting even a snow shovel in your car.”
