Big Lots will not go vacant, Seaford Mayor previews what’s to come for the location

SEAFORD, Del. – Following nationwide news that Big Lots had been sold, here locally, many people were concerned that the store in Seaford could go vacant. But, that’s not going to be the case, according to Seaford Mayor Matt MacCoy.
Mayor MacCoy confirmed to WMDT News today that the space will not close, but instead will shift to a different retailer after the company was sold last week. He said he’s thankful that the space will not be closing, and that the new store will be something exclusive to the area.
“The company is known as Ocean State Job Lot,” Mayor MacCoy revealed. “A lot of people around here were asking, ‘I’m not familiar with them, where are they from?’ From my understanding, they do a great job in the Northeast above us in the Vermont, New Hampshire area. So, we’re very excited that the location is going to remain open.”
The location will close briefly and then reopen as the new store. Mayor MacCoy tells us a job fair will be held locally on Wednesday where officials hope to get ahead of staffing the new store.
“Tomorrow, if you’re around the area, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., we’re having a job fair that’s going to bring us new jobs to the area, so we’re very excited about that and glad it went that direction because it could’ve gone the other way,” Mayor MacCoy said. “So, very happy it’s going to go favorably for us.”
The job fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Big Lots in Seaford, located at 900 Norman Eskridge Highway.
