SALISBURY, Md. – Wor-Wic Community College recently received a grant that will go toward campus safety.

The grant totals $262,500 and will be key to providing much needed upgrades.

A majority of the money will go toward access control and will allow campus security officers to remotely lock down buildings.

Another portion of the money will go toward upgrading and expanding campus security cameras.

The last bit of money will go toward funding a campus safety assessment.

“We’re an open campus,” said Carla Makinen, Director of Grants for Wor-Wic Community College. “We’re accessible to the community, anyone can come on to campus so it’s always important to be ahead of things and just to make sure we’re being proactive.”

The grant comes from the Maryland Higher Education Commission through its Campus Safety Program.
